The milk quantity is fine, but the dairy is cutting your rate because the fat is low. Fat percentage and SNF decide the price at most dairies and societies, so a drop of even a few points hurts the monthly income. The good news is that fat is mostly a feeding and rumen question. Here is how to find the cause and fix it, and where Pyrosach and Dudh Dhara fit in.

What decides the fat in milk

Most milk fat is built by the rumen microbes from fibre. When the animal chews good-quality fibre, produces plenty of saliva and keeps the rumen at a healthy pH, the microbes make the building blocks of fat. Anything that upsets the rumen shows up as a fall in fat first. Breed, stage of lactation and genetics also set a ceiling, so a Holstein cross will not match a Murrah buffalo, and fat is usually lower in early lactation and the first weeks after calving.

Common reasons for low fat

  • Too much concentrate and too little fibre. A ration heavy in grain and short on dry or green fodder drops the rumen pH and cuts fat.
  • Finely chopped or powdered fodder. The animal needs some long, coarse fibre to chew and make saliva.
  • Feeding concentrate in one or two big meals. Large meals push the rumen towards acidosis. Smaller, more frequent meals are gentler.
  • Rumen acidosis, often silent. Loose or bubbly dung, animals that go off feed in the evening, and less cud chewing are common clues.
  • Heat stress and low water intake. Hot weather cuts feed intake and fat. Clean, cool water within easy reach matters.
  • Mineral and vitamin gaps. A cheap or old mineral mixture, or none at all, leaves the rumen microbes short of what they need. See our guide to mineral mixture for buffalo.
  • Energy shortage after calving. An animal in negative energy balance mobilises body fat and can show odd fat readings and ketosis.
  • Mastitis and poor milking hygiene. Udder infection changes milk composition. Incomplete milking leaves the fattiest last milk behind.

A simple checklist to raise fat naturally

What to checkWhat to do
Fibre in the rationGive good dry fodder or green fodder every day, with some long, coarse pieces.
ConcentrateSplit it into 2 to 3 smaller feeds and do not overfeed grain.
Cud chewingA healthy cow or buffalo chews cud for many hours a day. If it has stopped, look at the rumen first.
DungWatch for loose, bubbly or foul dung and fix the ration before adding anything.
Water and shadeProvide clean water at all times and shade or fans in summer.
MineralsUse a good mineral mixture daily at the label dose.
MilkingMilk the udder completely and keep the routine at fixed times.

Fix these basics first. A supplement works much better on a balanced ration, and cannot make up for a rumen that is under daily stress.

Rumen yeast: where Pyrosach helps

Live yeast is used in dairy rations to support a stable rumen. Pyrosach is a rumen-adapted Saccharomyces cerevisiae with 10 billion CFU per gram. According to its label it supports rumen health, reduces loose faeces, supports mucosal immunity and fibre digestion, and helps milk, fat and SNF.

Pyrosach by IMN Pyrophos

Rumen yeast

Pyrosach

Rumen-adapted Saccharomyces cerevisiae (10 billion CFU per gram). Improves fibre digestion and rumen health, reduces loose faeces, and supports milk, fat and SNF.

Dose: 8 to 10 g per adult cow or buffalo per day, or 200 to 300 g per quintal of feed. Mix in the feed and soak overnight for best results.

Dudh Dhara: energy for milk, fat and SNF

Dudh Dhara is a milk booster with glucogenic precursors, beta glucans and yeast extract. The product page says it supports milk, fat and SNF, positive energy balance, conception and immunity. It suits cows and buffaloes in lactation, especially when energy is the limit.

Dudh Dhara by IMN Pyrophos

Milk booster

Dudh Dhara

Milk production booster with glucogenic precursors, beta glucans and yeast extract. Supports milk, fat and SNF, positive energy balance, conception and immunity.

Dose: 10 to 15 g per adult cow or buffalo per day, or 200 to 250 g per 100 kg of concentrate.

Common mistakes

  • Adding a supplement and leaving a grain-heavy ration unchanged. Fix the ration first.
  • Cutting all concentrate to raise fat. Milk yield and body condition fall. Balance it instead.
  • Judging fat from one sample. Fat changes between morning and evening milk and from day to day. Compare the weekly average.
  • Ignoring mastitis. Test the udder if fat and SNF drop suddenly.

Frequently asked questions

How can I increase fat percentage in cow milk? Give enough good-quality fibre, split concentrate into smaller meals, keep the rumen healthy, give clean water, use a good mineral mixture and milk the udder fully. A rumen yeast such as Pyrosach and an energy supplement such as Dudh Dhara can support the plan.

Why is the fat low in buffalo milk? Buffalo milk is naturally higher in fat than cow milk, so a drop usually points to heat stress, low fibre, rumen acidosis, a mineral gap or mastitis. Check the ration and the udder.

What is the dose of Pyrosach? 8 to 10 g per adult cow or buffalo per day, or 200 to 300 g per quintal of feed, mixed in the feed and soaked overnight.

What is the dose of Dudh Dhara? 10 to 15 g per adult cow or buffalo per day, or 200 to 250 g per 100 kg of concentrate.

Can I use Pyrosach and Dudh Dhara together? They do different jobs, one for the rumen and one for energy and milk. Both are fed in the ration, and your dairy adviser can set the plan for your herd.

How long before I see a change? Feeding changes show over days to a few weeks. Compare the weekly average fat and SNF, and keep the ration the same during the trial.

What is the price? Pyrosach 1 kg is ₹700 (MRP ₹1,200) and Dudh Dhara 1 kg is ₹1,150 (MRP ₹1,410). Prices may change, so confirm on WhatsApp.

How can I see the full range? The IMN product guide lists each product by problem and by stage.
