The weeks around calving decide the whole lactation. A cow or buffalo that calves with a calcium crash, loses appetite or burns too much body fat starts the year behind. One plan has three steps: before calving, on calving day and after calving. In this guide, Chloromate, a negative DCAD premix, covers the last 21 days before calving, Calcigain gives energy and electrolytes at calving, and Bionice supports the first 7 to 10 days after. You will find the label and product-page doses, a cost per calving and the rules that matter, such as feeding Chloromate only in feed. If you are searching for a negative DCAD premix or a calving plan, start with the timeline table.

Step 1: Chloromate before calving

Chloromate is a negative DCAD premix. DCAD is the balance between potassium and sodium (which make the blood alkaline) and chloride and sulphur (which make it slightly acidic). A negative DCAD diet in the last 3 weeks tilts the blood slightly towards acidic, which wakes up the body’s own calcium system so the animal is ready for the sudden demand at calving. That is how it helps prevent milk fever. Do not feed extra calcium or lime in the dry period instead.

Chloromate rules

  • Cow: 21 days before calving (close-up period), 60 g per animal per day, or 1.2 kg per 100 kg feed.
  • Buffalo: 1 kg per 100 kg feed.
  • Only in feed. Never give Chloromate by mouth or in the drinking water.
  • Not in pellet feed. Chloromate does not mix into pellets. Mix it into chokar (bran), maize or broken (chura) feed instead.
  • Best method: TMR. Mixing it into a TMR gives the most even intake.
  • Stop on calving day.

Price: 1 kg is ₹600 (MRP ₹800) and 5 kg is ₹2,900 (MRP ₹3,900).

Chloromate by IMN Pyrophos

Last 21 days before calving

Chloromate

Negative DCAD premix that helps prevent milk fever when fed in the last 21 days before calving. 5 kg pack ₹2,900.

Dose: Cow: close-up period (last 21 days before calving) 60 g per animal per day, or 1.2 kg per 100 kg feed; buffalo: 1 kg per 100 kg feed. Mix only in feed, never in water or by mouth. Stop on calving day. Pellet feed will not take Chloromate, so mix it into chokar (bran), maize or broken (chura) feed. The best way is a TMR.

Step 2: Calcigain at calving

Calcigain is a calving support with glucogenic precursors, vitamin B12, organic calcium, electrolytes, osmolytes, probiotics, trace minerals and vitamins. It restores appetite and rumen function, supplies electrolytes and helps prevent abomasal displacement (jama khisakna). Dissolve 1 kg in 20 L warm water, add 20 L normal water and give the 40 L at calving or just after. Give it only to an animal that is standing and drinking on its own. Never pour liquid into the mouth of an animal that is down. Price: 1 kg is ₹850 (MRP ₹1,750).

Step 3: Bionice after calving

After calving, milk rises faster than appetite and the animal burns body fat. This can lead to ketosis (energy shortage) and fatty liver, and low energy lowers defences. Bionice combines biotin, niacin, chelated zinc and chromium with glucose precursors. It supports ketosis and negative energy balance, fatty liver in early lactation and recovery from mastitis. Dose: 40 to 50 g per day for 7 to 10 days after calving as prevention; 80 to 100 g per day for 5 to 7 days for treatment; or 250 to 500 g per 100 kg feed. Price: 1 kg is ₹768 (MRP ₹1,100). For more on early lactation, see the Livolact liver tonic and our guide on mastitis support.

What not to do

  • Do not give Chloromate by mouth or in water. It goes only in feed.
  • Do not try to mix Chloromate into a pellet feed. Use bran, maize or chura, or a TMR.
  • Do not continue Chloromate after calving. Stop on calving day.
  • Do not feed extra calcium, lime or lush legume fodder in the dry period.
  • Do not pour Calcigain or any liquid into an animal that is down. Call your vet.

Common mistakes

  • Wrong calving date. Count 21 days back from the expected date and write it down.
  • Uneven mixing. A small dose must reach every animal. A TMR makes this easiest.
  • Treating the plan as a medicine. It supports normal calving, it is not a substitute for the vet in an emergency.
  • Heavy grain right after calving. Raise concentrate slowly over 2 to 3 weeks.

Frequently asked questions

What is a negative DCAD premix? A feed premix that shifts the ration towards chloride and sulphur so the blood is slightly acidic for 3 weeks before calving. This helps prevent milk fever.

What is the Chloromate dose? Cow: 60 g per animal per day or 1.2 kg per 100 kg feed, for the 21 days before calving. Buffalo: 1 kg per 100 kg feed. Only in feed, and stop on calving day.

Can I give Chloromate in water or by mouth? No. It must only be mixed in feed.

Can I mix it in pellet feed? Chloromate does not mix into pellets. Use bran, maize or chura, or best of all a TMR.

How do I give Calcigain? Dissolve 1 kg in 20 L warm water, add 20 L normal water and give 40 L at calving or just after, to a standing animal that drinks on its own.

What is the Bionice dose? Prevention: 40 to 50 g per day for 7 to 10 days after calving. Treatment: 80 to 100 g per day for 5 to 7 days. Feed mixing: 250 to 500 g per 100 kg feed.

What are the prices? Chloromate 1 kg ₹600, 5 kg ₹2,900. Calcigain 1 kg ₹850. Bionice 1 kg ₹768. Prices may change, so confirm on WhatsApp.

Where can I see all IMN products? The IMN product guide lists each product by problem and stage.
